When I look back on my early years, I see more than just childhood memories. I see the foundation of the person I would eventually become. Home was not just where I lived—it was where my character was slowly and quietly shaped.
I grew up in a polygamous home, a setting that could easily have created distance or division. But my father worked hard to ensure that our home was built on unity rather than separation. Despite the complexity of our family structure, he made deliberate efforts to keep us connected and to raise us with shared values and mutual respect.
As children, we did not always understand the effort behind what he was doing. But looking back today, I realise that he was building something much deeper than a household—he was building a bond between us.
Over the years, life has taken each of us in different directions. We have grown, pursued our own paths, and built lives of our own. Yet the bond that my father worked so hard to create still holds us together. The sense of family he nurtured continues to connect us even today.
My father was also a very disciplined and strict man. Growing up under his guidance meant that there were clear expectations about how we behaved, how we treated others, and how we carried ourselves in the world. At times as a child, his strictness felt difficult. Like many young people, I wished for a little more freedom and fewer rules.
But as the years passed, I began to see the wisdom behind his approach.
My father believed that character had to be built early. Respect, honesty, discipline, and responsibility were values he insisted on. They were not simply spoken about; they were lived and enforced in our home.
Those lessons stayed with me in ways I did not fully appreciate at the time.
Even today, I often feel that I still carry the conscience of the young child I once was. It is genuinely difficult for me to misbehave or to act in ways that go against the values I was raised with. In many ways, I still hold the same principles that a twelve-year-old version of myself believed in.
Respect for others, humility, discipline, and integrity remain deeply rooted in who I am.
Our home also taught us that our actions reflected not just ourselves, but the family we belonged to. That understanding created a sense of responsibility in me from a young age. It encouraged me to think carefully about my choices and to carry myself with dignity.
As I reflect on those early years today, I feel a deep sense of gratitude.
What once felt like strictness now feels like guidance. What once felt like rules now feels like wisdom. The discipline my father instilled in us has become one of the greatest gifts of my life.
And the unity he worked so hard to create in our family remains one of the strongest legacies he left behind.
Those early lessons did not just shape my childhood—they continue to guide my life even today.
